About This Project

School Project

In this project, we had to design a chair that was strong enough to bare the weight of a person using only cardboard material and glue. I wanted to create something more organic than geometric. Right inside the chair, I added 4 cardboard cylinders (about 24″) for support and to withstand the weight of a person. Then I added the organic stripes around.

The first time I presented my chair, the judges said I needed to find a way not to make the cylinders visible. After giving it a lot of thought, I decided to add a few more organic stripes around to distract the eyes to the inside of the chair and it worked! My chair was one of the 5 designs chosen and to be displayed at the Walter N. Marks Center for the Arts and the A+D Center.

Materials Used:

Cardboard

White Glue

Hot Glue
